Profile:

Megatron is the feared leader of the Decepticons. His power is legendary, matched only by his unquenchable hunger for power. Megatron maintains an iron grip on the Decepticons, leading with a combination of brute strength, military cunning, ruthlessness, and pure terror. Megatron is feared by his own soldiers, many of whom know that they are nothing more than fodder fuelling the Decepticon war machine. But even though he is now unequivocally a tyrant, Megatron once had noble ambitions. Forged a miner, he saw first-hand how the underclasses of Cybertronian society were oppressed, and called for the reform of Cybertronian society. As Megatron rose to prominence as a gladiator in the fighting pits of Kaon, many were drawn to his cause, including Soundwave and Starscream. In that harsh, violent place, Megatron hardened his views. In his eyes, only armed revolution would achieve his vision for Cybertron - he would destroy the corrupt Cybertron of old and build his utopia on its ashes. Long years of war have left Megatron bitter and evil-minded. Whatever his noble ambitions used to be, they have been cast aside, abandoned as Megatron's lust for power has grown. Now, Megatron exists as a purely malevolent force, dedicated to total domination. Only the Autobots oppose Megatron's ambitions; a force Megatron views as an annoyance, insects to be crushed underfoot. Of his many enemies, only Optimus Prime commands even the smallest amount of respect from Megatron. Many Autobot recruits only whisper Megatron's name; the sight of him on a battlefield, laying waste to all before him with his fusion cannon, is enough to break the spirits of all but the most resolute Autobot warriors.

Author notes:

For this bio, covering the original incarnation of Megatron, I wanted to make sure that I captured the megolomanical villain of my childhood. I didn't want to completely ignore elements like the IDW origin or the Marvel annual story "State Games", but at the same time, I wanted to get back to Megatron's roots as the utterly terrifying complete monster of a villain I think we all know and love. An idea I had in my mind writing this was that Megatron actually has lost sight of his end goal. Now, he fights because he needs to grind all those before him under his heel. It's something that is covered in the recent Netflix Earthrise series - Megatron needs an enemy to fight.

That's the Megatron who I am writing here. I like a lot of the other versions of Megatron who have come and gone over the years, but this version of Megatron - the merciless megolomaniac - is the one who I identify with the most from my childhood

For me, Masterpiece Megatron v2 represents the absolute pinnacle of the Masterpiece line, in that he's extremely faithful to the original design, comes with a boatload of accessories, and is highly articulated. He's also incredibly complex and has some clever tricks involved in the transformation.
