Profile:

Third Party (Unofficial) Transformers Mirage robot mode
A former member of Cybertron’s upper classes, manufactured into a line of wealth and nobility, Mirage used to live a playboy lifestyle, hunting turbofoxes on his vast estates with his high-priced friends or sailing through Cybertron’s star system on board one of his private solar-sail yachts. He didn’t care much for politics, preferring to ignore it in the name of living the good life. As war began to erupt across Cybertron, Mirage tried his best to pretend nothing was wrong and keep living his privileged life - until finally the whole planet descended into war and all of Mirage’s wealth and status became meaningless. Even so, Mirage carries himself with a certain high-class (some might say stuck-up) attitude which makes many Autobots feel like Mirage is looking down on them. Mirage doesn’t care for being a part of a team of freedom fighters, finding the more rough-and-tumble Autobots like Sideswipe to be particularly uncouth. Mirage isn’t particularly convinced of the Autobot cause, which leads some Autobots to question his loyalties. Some, like Cliffjumper, suspect Mirage would walk away from the Autobots - or worse, defect to the Decepticon side - if he were ever offered a chance to get his old life and social status back. But in spite of his coolness to the Autobot cause, Mirage has chosen to stand by Optimus Prime, something which the Autobot leader is grateful for, as Mirage is an effective warrior and an even better spy.

For my Masterpiece collection, I picked up an unofficial version of Mirage as an official release doesn't seem to be forthcoming. My choice of third party Mirages was Ocular Max's Sphinx. While this feels like it should fit in with the style of earlier releases like Sideswipe, I'm less impressed with Sphinx - or maybe it's just that I never particularly cared for Mirage as a character, in spite of him being one of the more interesting Autobots.

Classics Mirage is one of my favourite Mirages. I really like his design, it is full of personality and it has a great, unique look with his tall, slender design. The poseability is excellent - he can fold his arms! - and he has a fantastic F-1 alternate mode. I liked this one so much I felt no need to pick up the Siege version. Siege looks fantastic too, but Classics I feel takes enough liberties to truly update Mirage's design in a way that stays true to his personality while doing something new that perfectly complements the look and personality of Mirage. Absolutely recommended.
