Profile:

First Aid is one of the most empathetic beings on Cybertron, if not in the galaxy as a whole. One of a number of conscientious objectors among the Autobot ranks, First Aid hates seeing others in pain, even enemies - which makes him butt heads with the gung-ho Blades. Organics, Cybertronians, Quintessons, even non-sentient machines have been the beneficiaries of First Aid's boundless compassion. Making sure that everything functions perfectly is something of an obsessive-compulsive condition for this Autobot doctor. First Aid cannot pass through a town where the street lamps or stop lights do not work properly without stopping to fix them; he can't ignore a broken-down car by the roadside. Whatever the situation is, if it is broken, First Aid won't leave until it is fixed. This means First Aid is frequently distracted from his actual mission; he often misses mission debriefings because he stayed behind to repair the damage of the Autobots' latest battle with the Decepticons. This frustrates some Autobots, but most accept that First Aid is too compassionate and find it hard to criticise him. Or at least, they do until First Aid decides to confine them to the medbay because their vehicle mode tires seem a little worn, or their GPS is faulty. Most Autobots complain about First Aid's overly cautious nature, but they know he generally has their best interests in mind.

Writing First Aid, I kept two stories in the back of my mind: the season 3 cartoon episode The Ultimate Weapon, where First Aid quits the Autobots due to his pacifist ideals, and More than Meets the Eye, where First Aid was a major recurring character. More than Meets the Eye was a particular influence in scaling up First Aid's "gotta fix 'em all" attitude to full on OCD (although More than Meets the Eye never touched on this, it would be in character for that series). I just overall love the old Generation 1 bio for First Aid, especially the mental image of First Aid trying to get somewhere but a sneaky Decepticon broke a bunch of street lights as a distraction, knowing it'd hold up First Aid and delay the deployment of Defensor.

I also wanted to establish a bit of in-fighting between Blades and First Aid. I see First Aid freaking out when Blades starts carving up Decepticons, and the two of them arguing about "unnecessary lethal force" after the fact. In my mind, First Aid would eventually ask to stand down from the Protectobots and his place on the team would be taken by Rook, although he'd always be available if the team needed him to step in because one of the other members was unavailable.

Transformers Combiner Wars First Aid

The Combiner Wars First Aid toy is an absolute beauty. While it is quite faithful to the Generation 1 original, there are some cosmetic changes which take inspiration from the More than Meets the Eye comic design, such as the "veins" on the legs. The headsculpt on this one is really impressive, too, with real personality. It's a great looking little toy, and fortunately the poseability is also excellent, which was standard for the Combiner Wars line.

The fact that First Aid comes with an axe and a four barrelled cannon always amused me. He's a pacifist who doesn't like it when Blades slices enemies to shreds - so naturally, he comes with an axe to hack enemies apart!

Because of this, I wanted to do some photos of First Aid with more "appropriate" accessories - that is why in a couple of pics he's holding a wrench. That wrench came with Transformers Siege Ratchet, and it seems to get passed around a lot in my collection - I can see it also ending up in the hands of Nautica when I revisit her for a later photoshoot.
