Name: Jetfire
Allegiance: Autobots
Function: Air guardian
Timeline: Generation 1
Among the mysteries of science lies the key to victory.
Profile:
Given the way Jetfire crashes into battle - swooping down from above the clouds displaying a confidence that borders on recklessness - it sometimes comes as a surprise that Jetfire isn't a warrior, but a peaceful 'bot who'd rather be hard at work in his laboratory than on the frontlines. Jetfire is driven by the quest for scientific discovery and exploring the unknown; nothing fills his spark with greater excitement than sweeping back the veil of the unknown and going where no 'bot has gone before. It sometimes embarrasses Jetfire that some of the adventures he had in his quest to learn the secrets of alien worlds had earned him the reputation of a "gentleman science adventurer" and made him a minor celebrity on Cybertron. It was almost enough to make most Cybertronians overlook some of Jetfire's less popular opinions, like his political leanings. In those early days, Jetfire was an ardent supporter of the Decepticon movement, and a prominent advocate of Megatron. Even so, Jetfire's disappearance was met with dismay by many; given the transition of the Decepticons into armed revolution shortly after, rumours abound that Jetfire had been eliminated either because he was unwilling to support a more forceful revolution, or a jealous rival wanted him removed to clear the way for their own advancement. For centuries, Jetfire slumbered in emergency stasis within a glacier on Earth. When he awoke, Jetfire found himself in a world transformed. He found the Decepticon movement he'd known had become an abominable force; he barely recognised his old friend Starscream for the thoroughly despicable individual that he'd become. The senseless violence of the Decepticons of the present day sickened Jetfire and made him regret ever supporting them in the past. It was only logical that he join the Autobots, where he hopes that by advancing Autobot technology he can bring a swift end to the Cybertronian wars.F-14 Tomcat jet fighter mode:
Author notes:
While I wrote this bio from the perspective of the Generation 1 Jetfire I remembered from the cartoon series, I kept his later incarnations in mind. That whole like about being a "gentleman science adventurer" is something that will defintely get referenced again when I write the Cyberverse version of this character. Jetfire's fate is something of a branch point in the history - the way I wrote this, Jetfire disappearing when he did meant he never had a chance to become the hardened villain from the Netflix War for Cybertron series. Had Jetfire not been lost in space, would he have turned bad? Possibly. That's a different continuity to the one I'm writing either way, but I did have that division in mind when I wrote that part of the profile. The original bio from the Marvel comics had some good ideas, and it's a pity I wasn't able to make use of them here - I'll accommodate them into another character's profile later on, including possibly Generation 2 Jetfire, who is a different guy in my mind.
